About This Event
Credit unions have received garnishment orders, levies and subpoenas against their members requiring the credit union to send funds in the account to the creditor that issued the garnishment order or levy or respond to a subpoena. Until recently, credit unions did not have a responsibility to determine where the funds in the account came from and if those funds are exempt from garnishment or levy. This session will discuss what a garnishment, levy and subpoena are and the credit unions responsibility when they receive them. We will also take a look at how to determine if funds in an account are exempt and how much of the funds in the account are exempt.
